For New Testament Church

Dennis and I put together some pictures for New Testament Church in Woodland, Ca.  These are just some that kind of generally show how we spend our time here in Belize.
At the school during break.

Getting ready for the yearly parade to celebrate something like
Independence Day.

Some of the kids bring sticks from home so they can attach
flags and balloons to them.

The school was built in three different sections by three different entities.  Dennis spends a lot of time on windows, doors, desks and shelves.  He also works on the bathrooms, lawnmowers, outside benches, and random students who get hurt at school.  Most of the time it is cuts and scrapes, but once in a while stitches are required.  Mrs. Blanco is the Infant One teacher and the "school nurse" by default.  She has had the most training.  The school has only teachers for staff, there is no secretary, janitors or school nurses here.  Everyone works on everything!

Alfredo, fearless littlest brother of the Castillo family.  Favorite activity is any kind of running, jumping
and playing and it often does not include clothing.

Christian, Alfredo's older brother.  Don't let the adorable smile fool you
this little guy is tough.

Dora is a very resourceful wife and mother.  She is an excellent cook and one of the
most hardworking people I have ever met.  And she has great fun
trying to get me to speak Spanish.

Painting our finger nails at Dora's house.
Lucia is the oldest sister in blue, Thalia is the one smiling at you, and Noeli, from next door, is watching from up on the veranda.  Dora is smiling, she just painted Alfredo's nails.

About a year ago we started to spend time with the kids outside of school.  We have had quite a few over to the house.  On this day we went to Mennonite Beach, just down the road.  It was a fun day!

Baking at the house.  This is my entire kitchen.  But, hey, I have
electricity and that is extremely nice!

Just washing Thalia's feet.

We live about three miles from the village but it is an
entirely different terrain.  The kids like to walk down our road.

Dennis relaxing with Diego and Dauer.

We had a couple of the older boys help put up a small rain gutter.
They love working with the tools.

What a cute little guy.

Rovin and Geldin trying out the mega-bubbles.

Dennis made airplanes out of foam board.  These guys had a fun time.

We have established the first Uno fanatics in Belize.
The whole school likes to play now.

One of my friends, Herson, a very loveable guy.

Spending the day with Loren and Imelda.  They are two young ladies
that our church sponsors who attend Eden High School.

This photo is about 4 years old.  All five of these kids
are in school now.

A large church in Texas donated an entire library to Buena Vista Government School last summer!  I was extremely excited!  Many of the kids don't have books at home.  The library has become like our office and Dennis and I both run it.  The kids really like having books read to them, as you can tell.

Keel Billed Toucan outside our front door!

Big Rock Falls located about an hour and half away.  By the way, we did jump in!

One of our outings

When the marbles are handy the boys play for hours.

One of my favorite pictures.

We live at a place called Bridge the Gap in Blackman Eddy.
Dennis has held electrical classes here.

Public school ends at Standard 6, our equivalent to the end of Jr. High.  Most of the kids are between 13 and 15 years old.  A few are blessed to get sponsors to pay for high school, but only the ones whose grades are the highest.

So, there you have a lot of it.  This blog has a two year history and there is a lot of stories about how we got here and what God has been up to.  Dennis uses the blog as an outlet for his photography skills.  Some of you remember his photography!

God bless you all and please keep us in prayer!

Thank you,

Dennis and Vicki Lucas

P.S. The next blog will be introducing our Men of Honor/Ladies of Honor Program!
P.S.S.  It is 106 degrees today!!!!
