Dennis and I are spending a lot of time entertaining this summer vacation. My calendar is filling up quickly with the names of kids from Buena Vista. We have so much fun hanging out with them! We usually have lunch and then choose an activity.
These bubble pictures don't have any kids in them because we are testing out different recipes. This one has one cup dish soap, half cup corn syrup and six cups of water. We made some cool ones when we were testing them, but when the guys were over it didn't work as well. So Dennis decided to make airplanes out of foam board. Now that worked very well!
So the guys stand up beside the house and throw the planes down the hill. It only lasted about 30 minutes because they had to come back up the hill each time. They wore me out just watching them. |
Having fun! |
There is the bungalow behind us. |
Interesting picture of Geldine. |
Jaison |
This was Noel's first time playing, I'm guessing that Yoni was helping him. |
Jaury, Patricia, Aimee, Jamila and Revecca |
A few days later we had some of the girls over. They worked on puzzles and made bracelets. I tried to feed them egg sandwiches but they didn't like them. I was told egg sandwiches are "gringo" food. So they gobbled up a bunch of peanut butter and jelly instead.
This is Jaury and her brother Herson. Herson has a personality that matches this picture! |
Dennis has a new best friend! |
Love these girls, Marcelie (Marcy) and Jaury. |
Dennis and I are going out to the school three days a week and having a reading class with who ever shows up. A few of the kids are there because their mothers know we are working on readings skills. The rest of the kids are there just because they want to be and don't have any else to do during the summer.
Classes are going well at Bridge the Gap also. The guys are getting used to me and I am doing my best to understand their Kriol. We usually have a fun time learning phonics and sight words.
The weather has turned really, really hot! I am sitting in the house sweating as I type. It is cloudy and breezy but the humidity comes in waves. It seems to help to move around during the day. I can't sit too long without getting "hot flashes", whether they are my own or just Belize. This is the start of the wet hot season here, also known as hurricane season. Nothing threatening so far. Word has it that we are to have a pretty tame hurricane season this year! Yay!
Another blog coming soon.
Love you guys!
